Costa Crociere is the first tour operator in Italy and the first shipping company in the world to attain SA 8000 certification SA 8000, which is recognition that it assures core labour rights, prohibits child labour, and provides a safe and healthy working environment.

For a company that operates worldwide with around 10,000 employees from 60 different countries, the focus on the social role of the enterprise and the resulting responsibilities is a decisive factor.

SA 8000, which is part of the B.E.S.T. 4 scheme, defines corporate behaviour and policies based on the greatest possible respect for ethical-social values and the commitment to improve working conditions, creating welfare in the broadest sense of the term.

This certification comes as a logical consequence of the Company's Code of Ethics, adopted by Costa Crociere in the 1990s. It is part of the process whereby the corporate identity is constructed with the ethical dimension in employment practices at the top of the scale of corporate values.

The adoption of ethical standards of conduct by the Company and its personnel (integrity, honesty, loyalty, diligence, non-discrimination), referred to in the Code of Ethics, is reaffirmed by the certification with the definition of specific processes.

Costa Crociere is committed to the adoption of a clear, formal corporate policy outlawing child labour and discrimination (on the grounds of race, sex, age), and safeguarding workers' rights concerning:
remuneration (wages in accordance with minimum industry standards applicable in the countries of origin of workers, with the duties and basic needs of personnel, with collective bargaining agreements in force);
working hours;
health and safety;
freedom of association.
