Costa Cruises has been publishing its Socio-Environmental Report since 2005 as a demonstration of its commitment to sustainable development and ever-greater transparency towards its stakeholders.
Now in its sixth edition, the document reports on the important results achieved in different areas in 2010 and has been produced for the fourth year running according to the internationally recognised GRI standard and verified by RINA Services SpA (Italian Shipping Register).
In the environmental field, the percentage of waste similar to urban solid waste recycled in ports has increased considerably (+26% compared to 2009) and, in a new development for 2010, a new indicator has been introduced in the report to illustrate the many initiatives undertaken to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and the results achieved. In the social sphere, major investments have been made in training human resources, particularly our safety and security staff.
Significant data, further reinforced by the financial results achieved in particular thanks to the increased number of Guests on board: over 2 million (+18% compared to 2009) chose one of the cruises offered by the Costa Group.
With a view to ensuring the increasing involvement of stakeholders in producing the Report, the 2010 edition includes - for each of the main chapters - the comments of leading representatives of the institutional, technical, economic and academic world and non-profit organisations.
Your opinion also matters to us. We therefore request that you complete the short online evaluation questionnaire and return it to our relevant offices as specified below. It will provide us with valuable information with which to improve the next edition of the document.
