Costa Crociere and its fleet received the most prestigious awards as well as national and international recognition.


Prizes won by the ships

In March 2005 RINA (the Italian Shipping Register) assigned Costa Crociere the Green Star notation for its entire fleet.  Costa is the first company in the world to achieve this important form of recognition of voluntary compliance with environmental standards; it certifies that all Costa’s vessels are operated in an environmentally responsible manner and help protect the air and sea in the areas where they sail.

In April 2004 the Costa Mediterranea, Costa Atlantica and Costa Victoria received the prestigious Green Planet Award, which is assigned each year by Kuoni Travel Holding to tourist facilities which have been verified as having the highest levels of eco-compatibility.

In 2004 the Costa Mediterranea scored full marks of 100 in one of the periodical United States Public Health Service inspections.

In 2003 the Costa Mediterranea was assigned the Green Star by RINA, certifying that the ship is designed, built and managed in an environmentally responsible manner.

Onboard Services Magazine’s "Emerald" Prize awarded to Zeffirino’s Ristorante “Magnifico” on the Costa Victoria.

Onboard Services Magazine’s "Diamond" Prize (the top honor) awarded for the design of the uniforms on the Costa Atlantica.

Onboard Services Magazine’s "Emerald" Prize awarded to the Host/Hostess international program.

In 2001 the perfect 100 was awarded to the Costa Atlantica by inspectors from the United States Public Health Service.

The Costa Atlantica was chosen as the "Best European Newbuild 2000" by Porthole Magazine.

In 2000 the Costa Atlantica was awarded RINA’s Green Star, certifying that the ship is designed in accordance with specific standards of environmental compliance.

The Costa Classica was awarded 5 stars (the top rating) by Fielding's Cruise Guide.

In 1998 the Costa Romantica was chosen as "Head of the Class" and "Top Value Index" by Cruise Reports Newsletter Class.

The Costa Romantica received 5 stars (the top rating) and was voted one of the 10 most romantic ships by Fielding's Cruise Guide.

The Costa Victoria was voted one of the Top 10 Cruise Ships by CruiseReports Newsletter.

The Costa Victoria was awarded 5 stars (the top rating) by Fielding's Cruise Guide.

In 1998 Costa Crociere was voted one of the Top 10 Cruise Lines by the readers of Travel & Leisure.

"Roman Bacchanal" was voted the "Most off-the-wall" shipboard event by Fielding's Cruise Guide..

 

Prizes won by the company

“Green Planet Award 2005” by Kuoni Switzerland
Kuoni Switzerland assigned “Green Planet Award 2005” - the highest seal of eco-approval in the Swiss travel and tourism sector - to Costa Crociere fleet for its exemplary ecological performance.

2005/2006 Consumer Superbrands Award
At the Topbrands Tribute Event Costa Crociere won the “Consumer Superbrands Award 2005-2006” in the "Identification" category and was commended as follows: "Costa Crociere is the brand perceived as being closest to the needs and demands of the consumers."
The award was determined by a panel of customers interviewed by a major international research institute and places Costa Crociere among the 50 high profile Italian brands which stand out on account of their history, turnover, number of employees and appeal, and are featured in Topbrands, the book of leading brands in Italy 2005-2006.

“Le Voyage d’Or” 2005 prize for the best call center in France
At the 2005 edition of “Top Resa”, the main French tourism fair, Costa Crociere’s Contact Center was awarded “Le Voyage d’Or” as the best booking call center among all those run by tour operators in France.

Prize for the best cruise terminal in the Mediterranean
At the 2005 Seatrade Cruise Shipping Convention the international magazine Dream World Cruise Destination presented an award to the Savona Palacrociere, the cruise terminal managed directly by Costa Crociere, selected as the best passenger terminal in the Mediterranean in 2004.

“Stella d’argento” 2004 prize awarded by Assocomunicazione
Costa Crociere’s promotional campaign “Apri una parentesi” (“Make a digression”) won the “Stella d’argento” (“Silver Star”) from Assocomunicazione, the association of the most important Italian communication companies. The campaign, which was mounted in March 2004, was implemented in periodicals and with the support of display stands arranged in travel agencies, in department stores and in 100 gyms around Italy. The creativity of the "Apri una parentesi" advertising was based on the regenerative concept of spring cruises.

B.E.S.T. 4 Certification from RINA
In May 2004 RINA officially conferred on Costa Crociere the BEST 4, an integrated voluntary scheme certifying corporate compliance with the highest international standards in the areas of social accountability (SA 8000, issued in 2001), environment (UNI EN ISO 14001, issued in 1996), safety (OHSAS 18001, issued in 1999) and quality (UNI EN ISO 9001, issued in 2000). This is an unprecedented event not only in Italy but worldwide: Costa Crociere is in fact the first Italian business enterprise to achieve all four types of certification at the same time, and the first shipping company in the world to attain social accountability certification.

2004 Interline Award
The Interline International Group presented the Interline Award to Costa Crociere for the Best Advertising Campaign in 2003, namely the series of TV commercials entitled “La vacanza che ti manca” (“The holiday that you’re missing”).

2004 POPAI Europe Awards
Costa Crociere won the “Popai d’Argento” for its window-dressing in 2003 at the 2004 POPAI Europe Awards, the prestigious French competition open to all Point-of-Sale advertisers.

Alitalia “Io Leonardo” Prize in 2003
For the first time Costa Crociere won Alitalia’s “Io Leonardo” prize, which is awarded by Italy’s domestic airline to the tour operators who have performed best during the year in terms of productivity and loyalty programs.

Special Prize from the Port of Amsterdam in 2003
The Port of Amsterdam awarded Costa Crociere a special prize for “the important cruise activity it has continuously brought to the Port of Amsterdam over the last 10 years”.

2003 Television and Cinema Advertising Award
This important international award went to Costa Crociere’s TV commercials from the campaign “La vacanza che ti manca”. The three ads – entitled “breakfast”, “therapy” and “jogging” – won the Television and Cinema Advertising Award bronze medal for the “Travel and Tourism” category at the prestigious New York Advertising Festival, which – together with the Cannes Festival – is one of the top international showcases for the advertising industry.

2003 Marcopolo Award
Costa Crociere won the prize for the Cruise category in the competition held by Marcopolo, the satellite TV travel channel, in collaboration with BIT, the international tourism trade fair, and with the support of the Sicilian Regional Administration.

2002 ROME Prize
CONFITARMA, the Italian Shipowners’ Confederation, presented this prestigious award to Costa Crociere; the ROME Prize is awarded to members who stand out on account of their achievements in the areas of safety and environmental compliance.

2002 Venice Tourism Award
The Venice Port Authority chose Costa Crociere as the “most loyal” shipping company in the port’s passenger sector.

2002 Ediforum Tns-Abacus Prize
The spots in Costa Crociere’s TV campaign “La vacanza che ti manca” won the Ediforum Tns-Abacus prize in the “Tourism and spare time” category. The competition, held by the publishing company Ediforum in collaboration with Tns Abacus, is designed to test the effectiveness and lasting impact of advertising in the press, on billboards and on television.

2002 Key Award
Costa Crociere’s “breakfast” ad from the TV campaign “La vacanza che ti manca” won the prestigious Key Award for the category “Spare time, sport, tourism and travel”. The spot was commended for its innovative language and ironic tone. The objective of the Key Award is to enhance the effectiveness and aesthetic appeal of Italian commercials.

2002 Interactive Key Award
Costa Crociere won the 2002 Interactive Key Award in the “Beyond the Banner” category, in recognition of creativity and technological innovation in online communication. The award was given for the digital advertising campaign – “Take a half-hour break and arrange your cruise at www.costa.it" – which Costa Crociere conceived in collaboration with McCann-Erickson to promote the online competition “A made-to-measure cruise”, aimed at web users who arranged their cruise vacations on the Internet and then purchased it later at a travel agency.

2002 Condé Nast Traveller Readers' Choice Award
Costa Crociere was chosen in a poll by the readers of Condé Nast Traveller, coming first in the Readers' Choice Award for the best Italian cruise company. The Readers' Choice Awards are the result of Traveller’s survey of its readers’ preferences, expressed in a structured questionnaire with twenty tourist industry categories including hotels, restaurants, holiday resort villages, airlines, car rental firms, cruise lines as well as cities, islands and monuments.

Osservatorio Viaggi in 2002
A survey conducted in April 2002 by Osservatorio Viaggi TradeLab, the association of leading Italian tour operators, based on a sample of 13,000 Italian Internet users, found that Costa Crociere’s e-business strategies were the most effective in the industry.

2002 Pomod'Oro Excite Award
Costa Crociere’s web-based advertising campaign, called “Take a half-hour break and arrange your cruise at www.costa.it", won the “Spare time” section of the second edition of the "Pomod'Oro Excite Award", one of the most important Internet advertising competitions in Italy. The campaign was devised by McCann-Erickson and consisted of an interactive digital video, which was emailed to people from July through October 2001 in order to promote the online competition “A made-to-measure cruise”.

2002 Royal Viking Award
Costa Crociere won the 2002 Royal Viking Award from SAS - Scandinavian Airlines, for its sales results attained in 2001.

2001 Voyage D'Or Pro
France’s travel agencies awarded Costa Crociere the “Voyage d’Or Pro”, the prize conferred on the best cruise company operating in that country.

2001 Internet Key Award
The website www.costa.it won the 2001 Internet Key Award for category 5 “Tourism and travel”. The prize was awarded by the magazine Media Key, which commended the site for its creativity, effectiveness, technical quality and attractive layout; www.costa.it is aimed at consumers.

2001 MKT Prize
Costa Crociere was awarded the 2001 MKT prize for the innovative nature of its projects related to online marketing activities. Costa Crociere received the award specifically for its promotional campaign “Scatta in crociera” (“Hop on a cruise”), which simultaneously involved the website for the public www.costa.it, the B2B website for travel agents www.costaclick.net and the Internet Cafés on board the ships.

2000 Massimo Servakis Prize
Costa Crociere won the 2000 Massimo Servakis prize for innovative communication, awarded by the magazine Trade Business and by PCO Italia, for its website initiatives (creation of a dedicated section of the site with a virtual visit of the ship, banner campaign and web-mailing, competition, live webcast of the christening, production of a limited number of copies of a CD-ROM with film clips) organized to mark the christening of the Costa Atlantica.

Nomination for the 2000 Pomod'Oro Excite Award
By virtue of the campaign "Vinci Costa Atlantica con la diretta online" (“Win the Costa Atlantica on the live webcast”), mounted to mark the christening of the Costa Atlantica, Costa Crociere was one of the 10 nominations in the “Non Solo Web” category of the 2000 Pomod'Oro Excite Award, in the competition organized by Excite Italia. The “Non Solo Web” section refers to the best web-based advertising campaign by companies operating both on the Internet and through traditional channels of communication.

1999 Visual Award Plaque of Honor
The Federazione Italiana Vetrinisti e l'Accademia Vetrinistica Italiana (Italian Window-Dressing Federation and Window-Dressing Academy) presented Costa Crociere with a special award: the "Plaque of Honor" for the best visual merchandising campaign mounted in 1999. This prestigious prize – one of the “Visual Awards” presented by the Federation – is assigned by a jury of marketing, communications and window-dressing experts to the company which, in its industry and with regard to its communications mix, has developed the visual marketing initiatives with the greatest impact and professionalism.

2003 Porthole Cruise Magazine Readers' Choice Award
In 2003 Costa Crociere’s Mediterranean schedule was judged the best on the market by the readers of Porthole Cruise Magazine. Costa was selected for the prize at the fifth edition of the Readers’ Choice Awards, organized by the well-known US trade journal.
